Commute to Nowhere

Decided to get on the Shogun even though I didn't have anywhere to commute to. Just to see if the knee held up which it did! Rode to Hastings Headland to look at the approaching thunderstorm first...

So much for cooling the weather it passed by out to sea and the sun came back out with it's usual intensity.

and another one for luck../

Tentative

So far so good the knee is holding up but I haven't pushed it at all, just spinning up any hills and not pushing into the wind cadence has been a little slow but not putting pressure on the down stroke.... hope it keeps up

Also this afternoon was the first time for a while that I passed another rider twice doing my loop though in the reverse direction... ahh the humidity

Shark Hunt?

Why are "they" discussing the hunting of a shark which killed a swimmer in WA but not car drivers who kill cyclists in Victoria???? Have been off the bike for anything more than 10 km rides since my trip away, the left knee begins to ache sharply after this distance.... I'll take it easy until I feel the ability to go longer distances without the pain... But have taken to the crappy surf with 2 x daily paddles with the grub for exercise.

Journey

Well, I'm off to the big smoke today for a few days via Grafton and the Central Coast.... taking the Cypress.... try to add some posts if I get rides then access and time.... later

Surprise! Surprise! Sargent Carter

It Should be called "Bicycle Sydney"

I Just got my latest issue of PushOn from Bicycle NSW. Nothing in it is pertinate to regional areas, especially this far from "the center of the universe" FGS why do they bother with a pathetic attempt at unified voice of ALL riders in NSW when they only provide articles and info within a radius of 2.5 hours of the CBD. The state is a lot bigger than that!

Get Some PVA

Did a bit of a loop to potty and then an up and back along the freeway thence kanes rd etc to get some PVA glue for a small project... a flywire door on grubs bedroom...

C Usual Comment's Attack overnight

Just for a record I'm posting the attacks by spam bots last night, this is the usual crap that the system has to stop otherwise all I would be doing is deleting viagra ads all the time.... so the preventative measures i have in place are working, so far...

they always seem to originate in the usual place, the USA, and then migrate to the Asian bot servers, only occassionally are they from "local" Australian bot servers.

It's a pain in the ass but I think it exemplifies all things within the whole of society (world or local) where many cretans consider they have the right to scam "the system" and so they take, take, take whatever they can, selfish in the extreme, consideration for others zilch zip zero nil... Explanation? I've Got none.

Ignoring, allowing or being a party to inflicting anything onto an unwilling individual soul can only lead to a pretty crap society to live in, as all members will at some point become the victim.  Great heh?, i like having something to look forward to!

Waxing Warm

A night loop on the cypress to stretch the legs and test out a bodgie helmet mount for a light. It works so will be thinking of a bit of gravel over the next few weeks at night to avoid the sea breeze and summer tourists...

Sorry I should of said the waxing was to do with the moon and the warm was the nights temperature nothing to do with body hair, because i don't even like shaving facial hair there would be no way I could see a reason to expend the energy to delapidate any body part unless it meant less work not more!

Toothpick Required

The bugs were out again this evening! Even got a cane toad hitting my shin in the dark. Only one truck with it's lights on high beam... not one section of the loop seemed to have a tail wind tonight... thems the breaks

Shopping

Short Trip to Cabba to pick up a new saddle bag, tube and dry-lube all courtesy to yesterdays ride and an afternoon of maintenance...

A Bit of Everything

Thought about a ride today, even though I was feeling buggered and pulled a slow 45km which took 3 hours. Rode off toward Cabba, might as well get Cabarita Cycles to check the tyre pressure... My god it was humid with a brisk North Easterly blowing... Well even though it was expected to change to the South later in the afternoon I might as well ride North and look at climbing Duranbah and Farrants Hills. When I got to the top of Duranbah, I changed my mind and thought why not try to get through Forest Hill Road to Clothiers Creek.... it was not to be.

I rode round Duranbah Road to where I worked in 1987, memories.... and then back to Forest Hill Road.   After trying the center route and finding it ends in the swamp at the North West Corner of Cudgen Lake I climbed the return circle, coming off numerous times. At the top I noticed a fairly well marked track to the east, maybe this would make it around the Northern edge of the Lake... After rolling to the small creek at the bottom of this track I noticed a new fence line climbing straight back up the side of the spur on the otherside.... Nearly vertical! Ah well around here there are lots of old fire trails and I wrongly assumed there would be one along the ridge somewhere.... Dragging slipping and sliding my way up the very steep slope with the peddly over fallen logs and loose rocks slipping backwards occasionally. Finally after about 30 mins I made the 300 meters to the top and looked out through the trees toward another valley with another ridge beyond that.

[caption id="attachment_316" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="That Steep Bit"]That Steep Bit[/caption]

The push up the hill had left me disorientated and the sky was closing in so I was not sensing where I was I decided to follow the ridge upwards. I came to a fence line of a property follwed it and it happened to be on Duranbah Road thus I had completed a Circle... the hard way... By now I was fairly exhausted, not to speak of wet from the rain that had started to fall and decided to take the Cudgen Quarry track down to the coast road via Kings Forest...

Here I missed a turn and when I lazily did a U-Turn over the edge of the track to rectify this I managed to pick up a large thorn in the rear tyre and the rain was getting heavier. I pushed the bike to an area of clay fill near a cattle grid with a gate? in amongst all the sand tracks covered with pine cones. All thumbs I swapped the tube for a new one taking out the thorn and refitted the wheel.... By now the rain had decided to really come down and with it the wind was picking up from the South....

I cruised slowly back along the track towards the coast road, where all the cars had their lights blazing in the rain. Thinking of the waiting beer in the fridge at home didn't get me riding any faster!

OK! Mark what was it you were collecting on the side of the freeway on Tuesday Morning?

Bugs Bugs Bugs

Just a really quick 10 km this evening right on dark, had to breath by snorting in through my nose, it really cut the ride short. The bugs were a massive swarm and I swallowed a few before I wised up. On another note many of the glass shards have gone, thanks to some considerate people?

Slothing

Was just a flowing cruise around the loop today on the Cypress, warm yes but pleasant, wind was slight most of the day with sunny blue sky. The low lying paddocks and drains were still filled with quickly stagnating water after the storms of the last few weeks. The mozzies are going to pretty amazing over the next couple of weeks.... something to look forward to when i get my next puncture!

The amount of glass shardes from broken bottles has shown a big increase over this weekend, in one 150 meter stretch I counted 5 freshly smashed ones from last night alone. So the ride consisted of a lot of swerving and saying S*#$% as I failed to avoid a new patch, with a holding of breath listening for the tell tail shhhhhhhhh..... but today i was lucky.
